Natural Resources Engineering-ecology DepartmentThe natural resources engineering- ecology department of Binaloud Institution of Higher Education was established in 2010. This department began offering MSc courses in 2014, having accepted 10 students. With five permanent faculty members and more than 17 non-faculty lecturers, this department is currently training 75 students at BS and MSc levels who will be serving their country in the future.

Introducing Natural Resources Engineering-ecology

Considering the importance of preserving nature and natural resources and also the rising tide of water deficit crises in Iran along with air pollution, soil erosion and public’s awareness of the ecosystem, the supreme planning council of the ministry of science, research and technology recognized the establishment of natural resources-ecology major at A.A level in its 251st assembly in 1992. Then in the 334th assembly in 2002, the council defined this major at BS level. The major at MSc level had been defined in the 143rd meeting by the council. At BS and MSc levels, the syllabus includes general courses, evaluation with regard to the ecosystem, water contamination, soil and air, topography, land preparation and treatment, industrial pollution, beside human and the ecosystem.

In the past few decades, human race has revolutionized the ecosystem with its devastation power. Therefore, many species are on the verge of extinction, hard to compensate. Many parts of our planet have been filled with human’s damages to the ecosystem ranging from severe and improper disturbance in the ecological balance of the biosphere, dangerous levels of water and air contamination, and the destruction and evacuation of non-recyclable resources. Ecology engineering is a multidisciplinary major encompassing biology, physics, chemistry, math, applied ecology and geography. This major intends to bridge the gap between the human race and the environment so they can act in a way which is compatible with their needs and activities.

Having passed a four-year course at BS and a two-year course at MSc levels, graduates can take proper measures for solving ecological issues and problems with the best possible plan because they own the skills necessary for preparation, execution and supervision of the ecosystem-related research plans.

Job Market

All the residents of villages and cities need natural resources and improvements in the ecosystem status. Accordingly, the graduates of this field can be hired in the organization of the Ecosystem Preservation, Natural Resources Office, municipalities, the organization of Jungles and Parks, waste management departments, HSE units of industries, water treatment centers, water and sewage organization and private offices which work in the area of water, evaluation and green space.

Postgraduates of this fields can find a job as advisors in executive offices such the organization of Natural Resources Preservation, universities, Green Space organization, parks, hunting grounds, wetlands, the ministry of agriculture, the ministry of Power, and the organization of Budget Planning.
